Psiquiatra

Médico Cirujano de la Universidad de Antioquia, egresado en 1983, desarrolló el año rural en el Hospital San Vicente de Paúl de Apia –  Risaralda,  donde fundó el grupo de la Tercera Edad y de Pacientes Hipertensos, logrando con ello mejorar la calidad de vida de las personas del Municipio, ya que el mismo grupo se constituyó en el voluntariado que apoyó al Hospital en el desarrollo de los programas de promoción de la salud y prevención de la enfermedad.

Luego, fue director del Hospital San José de Marsella – Risaralda.  En 1985 inicia la especialización en psiquiatría en la Universidad de Antioquia y en el año de 1986 ingresa a laborar en el Hospital Mental de Antioquia, como médico en el servicio de urgencias.

En 1988, al terminar la especialización inicia labores como Jefe del Servicio de alcoholismo y hospital de día del Hospital Mental de Antioquia, diagnostico complicación y tratamiento, luego  convertido en texto que se encuentra disponible por la consulta en la mayoría de las bibliotecas  médicas del país.

En 1990 ingresa a laborar en el servicio de psiquiatría del Instituto de Medicina legal y ciencias forenses de Medellín, donde ocupó el cargo de coordinador.

En 1995 fue nombrado Gerente de la ESE CARISMA del Departamento de Antioquia, Institución que se transformó de ser una Institución para enfermos mentales crónicos, a ser un Centro de Atención a la dependencia y convirtiéndose en el Centro Especializado de atención a la población  con adicción mas importante del País.

En 2002 trabaja como  Médico psiquiatra y  fundador  de la Clínica Samein de Medellín.  En el 2005 fue nombrado Subgerente médico de la ESE Rafael  Uribe Uribe Regional Antioquia – Córdoba y Choco.

Actualmente es profesor de la Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana en la Facultad de Medicina desde 1988, tanto como profesor de cátedra y en ocasiones como profesor de planta de medio tiempo.

Ha sido profesor en el postgrado de derecho penal y criminología de la Universidad de Medellín y de la Universidad Autónoma Latinoamericana.

Fue profesor del postgrado de Ciencias Forenses de la facultad de derecho de la Universidad de Antioquia.

Ha sido profesor de sicopatología de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Antioquia.

Trabajó como profesor del postgrado de fármacodependencia de la fundación Universitaria Luis Amigo y como profesor del postgrado  Contextualización psicosocial de la Universidad San Buenaventura.

Fue el escritor del libro Alcohol y Alcoholismo Diagnostico, complicación y tratamiento, publicado por el fondo de estupefacientes de Antioquia y ha publicado varios escritos en revistas nacionales.

En la actualidad se desempeña como psiquiatra en la Clínica Samein y como profesional en su consultorio particular y es  profesor de cátedra del postgrado de psiquiatría en la Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana.
