Es muy frecuente que las futuras mamás pregunten por los riesgos que corren por problemas relacionados con el consumo de alcohol, ya sea por parte de ellas mismas durante el embarazo, o por parte del padre al momento de la concepción.

Estas preguntas obviamente tienen varias respuestas que es importante dilucidar y así poder aclarar tantas dudas que existen al respecto.  Empezaremos por señalar que si la concepción misma se hace bajo los efectos del alcohol, ya sea por uno o por ambos padres, de principio no tendrá mayores efectos sobre la salud física del hijo, siempre y cuando ninguno de los padres sea alcohólico,  caso distintos, es cuando el embarazo es producto del estado de embriaguez, y no es deseado, en esta situación, lo mas seguro es que existirán un sinnúmero de complicaciones de tipo emocional, afectivo y social, tanto para la madre como para el  nuevo ser engendrado en estas condiciones.

Por otro lado esta claramente demostrado desde hace muchos años y por múltiples estudios que el alcoholismo se hereda genéticamente de padres a hijos.  Esto quiere decir que los hijos de los alcohólicos tienen mayor riesgo de volverse dependientes a lo largo de la vida, independientemente de que el alcohólico sea el padre o la madre.

Ahora bien, ¿qué pasa si la madre consume alcohol durante el embarazo? En estos casos se presenta una situación de alto riesgo para el bebe; ya que se está exponiendo a sufrir el Síndrome Alcohólico Fetal, que aunque es independiente de que la mamá sea o no Alcohólica, si es condicionado por la cantidad y la frecuencia con que se consumió el licor.

Cuando se ingiera alcohol durante la gestación existe hasta un 17% de posibilidades de que se presente muerte fetal intra-uterina y aborto espontáneo, además el 27% de los hijos de madres consumidoras de licor durante el embarazo están propensos a sufrir retardo mental.

SECUELAS:

Otros problemas que causa el alcohol en los hijos de estas mujeres son los siguientes:

Malformaciones en el corazón, en la piel, en los genitales, en el hígado, en los huesos, en el cerebro y en los riñones; también pueden aparecer tumores en algunas partes del cuerpo.

Por último,  si el consumo ha sido muy frecuente, la criatura puede desarrollar al nacer un Síndrome de Abstinencia, que le puede cuasar la muerte por deshidratación y convulsiones.
